Fry Street Burning

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

I recently learned that they demolished a part of Fry Street (Denton, TX), a section of bars I would frequent in college, to make way for some big corporate stores. It’s a shame that this place is becoming so commercialized. In some sort of protest, someone set one of the buildings on fire. I came across this video that was taken three days prior to the arson, including the fire about 2/3 of the way through the 17 min video.

14 hours

The down side to staying up 30 hours straight is that you tend to crash for a long time afterwards. I almost missed Hank’s class this morning because of that. I slept for 12 hours and then another 2.5 after his class. I’ve seriously got to stop pushing everything until the last minute. It’s affecting my health.

Hmmm…

Playoffs

The plan tonight was to come home, finish up a little bit of work, and then hit the sack. But then, the Dallas Stars and Vancouver Canucks decided to go to 4 overtime periods.

When it comes to sports, I honestly don’t care. But if it’s hockey, I’ve been known to get into fights over teams. I probably shouldn’t be allowed to drink at a hockey game, especially if the Stars are playing.

The game ended shortly after 3.30 am, and I should be going to bed angry, but I’ve got to finish up some work. Blah.

Et tu, Brute?

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

My printer mocks me. Printing all slow and crap. Two days. 3 pages left. Model, looks like ass. My hands are too shaky to make such little pieces. The caffiene only works in spurts. Critiqué is the least of my worries today. Maybe not, but there’s other stuff I gotta do. Been up since 7, almost passed out a couple of times. Gonna pull an Adam and dress up all extra nice. Even starting to talk like him.

Things were a lot easier back in high school English class. (if that’s not the most obvious statement of the year) But I was thinking today of a video I made way back when. Got me, and my group, an A, simply because I was the first person ever to make a video for the teacher’s class. I’ve been called innovative before on several occasions. I’ve never considered myself to be innovative. To me, it seems like logic. But maybe that’s what innovation is. Just being able to see things from another perspective, to be the first person to realize that there is a better way to do something.

I’m not good with models, or any small parts. My fingers are too big, and my hands won’t stay still. I wish I could have finished my model on the computer, put together a fully rendered 3-D model. But I suppose that would have been too easy. Instead, I’ll show pictures of a half-done model, and show them a hastly thrown together real life 1:48 scale hunk of crap. I just want some damn sleep.

Driving

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

A few months ago, a school bus fell off of an over-pass near where my brother lives, in Huntsville, AL. I know exactly where it happened. In fact, it was actually at the exit off of I-565 that I take to go to his house.

Today, I woke up to helicopters over-head because a bus fell off the over-pass of I-75 @ Northside drive, the exit I take to come home.

These are two separate tragedies that have occured at very busy intersections, caused in part by how dangerous we have made this world. I’ve experienced the fall-out from far too many auto wrecks personally. So, if you ever notice me critiquing your driving while riding in your car, I’ve got a pretty good reason to do so.
