Armchair

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Today I started Armchair Media for my 3-month internship. I met the staff that I didn’t already meet Tuesday night at the going away party for George, Larry, and Witt.

I don’t think it’s going to take me very long at all to settle in. I’m really excited about what’s ahead.

Wiiiiiiii

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Sometimes you have to make the most out of a bad situation. I had to drop my mom off at the airport in Birmingham (on the way home from Huntsville), which means a long, boring drive back to Atlanta. At some point during the last week, I had decided that I was going to get a Wii, but I didn’t want to pay extra. So, I decided to stop off in the horrible little hick-towns along I-20.

The first place I stopped was a super Wal-mart. As I got off the highway, I felt like I was being watched. I saw 4 mullets before I made it to the door, and about 2 teenage mothers once I was inside. And for all my trouble, I got nothing.

Down the road, there was another Wal-mart, and then another Target. Having found nothing so far, I was ready to give-up. There was a Best Buy right next to the Target, so I thought I might as well look to make sure. I turned the corner to the Video Game isle, and there was a box. I picked it up, and it wasn’t empty. Surely, something must be wrong. I took it up to the counter, but nothing happened, other than the exchange of currency.

If nothing else, it’s a good excuse to have that house warming party I never had when I moved into my apartment 9 months ago. Maybe this Saturday, along with some brewing.

But anyway, as I opened the box, I really liked the packaging, so I thought I would share if you were unfamiliar.

7th Quarter Done

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

It’s been a crazy-busy quarter, but I thought I’d share some of the work:

Civility Posters: The problem with people in the media that use derogatory terms is the snowball effect it can have. There’s potential the situation could get out of hand if no one stands up.

Privacy Poster: With the availability of communication comes the potential for others (the government) to breech your private messages and listen in on your most intimate conversations.

The issue with political pundits on television is that they only tell one side of the story. Imagine if our kids grow up only knowing half (or less) of the information and make ill-informed decisions based upon what their parents think.

When the NHL came back from Lock-out, it came back with new rules meant to open up the offence. It’s been a while since the games have been as offensive as it is today, so this piece is meant to tie the ice surface with a time-line for the NHL.

The infamous chair project: My chair is about the story of my nephew’s birth and how it brought a sense of balance into my life between my fun/creative side, and my pragmatic side seeking a sense of order and safety, especially when it comes to playing with my niece and nephew, as I also am aware of their safety.

Erin and James’ Wedding

Monday, June 18th, 2007

This weekend, 6 of us went to Milwaukee for Erin and James Zachman’s wedding.

It was a beautiful ceremony, and the reception got a little crazy, especially when those crazy ATL kids took over the dance floor.

Congrats you crazy kids. I’m happy for you.

The 2012 London Olympics unveiled thier logo today:

All I can say is WTF? They are pushing this monstrosity to convey the message that the games will be “everybody’s games.” Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of moving the games around to a different venue every 4 years?
